In the early 1970's I went to several Ansel Adams workshops in Yosemite. It was a great experience to gather there with not only Ansel Adams but to be in the presence of many outstanding contemporaries of the photographic scene. It was there I first listened to Jerry Uelsmann lecture and saw a slideshow of his work. When I look back, it fascinates me to think how he had mastered the art of making photo-composites in the darkroom, while today we do it with comparative ease in Photoshop.

The Adams workshops gave advancement to my technical skills. My black and white prints got better. I never hesitated to approach other photographers for help when I wanted to improve on something. William Clift and Laura Gilpin were both very helpful and shared some of their techniques with me. I am very grateful to all the teachers I have had along the way.
